Petra Nemcova for Rampage

rampage Petra Nemcova for Rampage

The Rampage store at Westfield Valley Fair was recently closed to make room for the Forever 21 meets Abercrombie spinoff, Heritage 1981 (note that if you were born in 1981, you are decidedly not 21 years old). Coincidentally, Petra Nemcova is not exactly looking her best on the Rampage website. Were the sunglasses necessary to hide a post-breakup hangover? Was this photo taken mid-sneeze? Questionable as the ad may be, I have to admit Ms. Petra is still a sexy survivor. I’m disappointed that the top is sold out, but the Baby Gingham Knee Length Skirt with Ruffled Hem is available and on sale for $27.99.

J.Crew Lobster Skirt

Perhaps it is the fact that it is my favorite food or maybe I just have a thing for nautical wear since I was raised by the ocean. Whatever the reason, I absolutely fell in love with J.Crew’s lobster skirt when I first saw it in the storefront. In fact, I did a double take. It made me feel thirteen again, blushing as I passed a cute boy in the mall. Needless to say I was smitten. My favorite food adorning my favorite summer skirt; what more could a girl need?

A-Line Skirts

If you’re not a size 0, or if your body is pear-shaped, your best bet when it comes to skirts is A-line cuts. Unlike pencil skirts, that become narrower at the bottom and can be fabulously flattering for some figures but very challenging for the average person, an A-line skirt resembles the letter A because it is narrower at the top and wider toward the bottom, thus disguising heavier hips and thighs.

One of my favorite A-line skirts this season is Façonnable’s Embroidered Floral A-Line Skirt (Nordstrom, $175).

It is feminine and cute and can be dressed up with heels or made to look more casual with a pair of ballet flats.

Another great cut is the Esprit Print Voile Skirt (Nordstrom, $69.50).

The print is bold but not overly fussy and the cut – narrow at the waist and fuller at the bottom – is very flattering.

The New Mini Skirts - Trend Alert

Posted on June 5, 2007 at 6:14 pm (PST) | Comments Off

I am sure you all have a classic blue denim mini skirt in your closet; I think it qualifies as a wardrobe staple. But after being struck by white lightening and the resurgence of bright denim it’s not surprising this warm weather skirt has taken on new forms. The new mini skirts are still fun and flirty but are freshly updated; I’m thinking a white one would be too cool for school.

(L-R)

- GAP Pinstriped denim mini skirt, $50.
- Citizens of Humanity Electric Guitar Mini Skirt, $132.
- James Jeans - Dry Aged Denim Mini Skirt, $137.
